Seahawks 2025 Free Agency Tracker
The Seahawks already have re-signed defensive tackle Jarran Reed and linebacker Ernest Jones. Could bringing Sam Darnold on board be next?
Kicking off the offseason with a bang, the Seattle Seahawks made constant headlines in the week leading up to free agency by trading quarterback Geno Smith and receiver DK Metcalf, and in the aftermath of those blockbuster moves, general manager John Schneider has a ton of holes to fill with the tampering period set to open on March 10.
Will Schneider quickly sign Smith’s replacement under center in Sam Darnold or another veteran quarterback? Could Seattle buck past trends and spend big bucks on an offensive lineman such as Falcons center Drew Dalman or Colts guard Will Fries? Does the organization further fortify a strength by making a run at a defensive tackle or edge rusher?
Keeping tabs on every signing, trade, and rumor along the way, check back often as we update our free agent tracker as moves trickle in during what could be an abnormally busy first couple of days for Schneider and the Seahawks:
March 9
11:23 AM PT: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Seahawks will be bringing back veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed on a three-year, $25 million deal, fortifying the team’s defensive line by locking up one of their best players. The former second-round pick out of Alabama produced 4.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and five tackles for loss last season and should be in line for extended snaps alongside Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II on Seattle’s front line.
3:46 PM PT: Securing their other priority free agent, per Rapoport, the Seahawks inked standout linebacker Ernest Jones IV to a three-year contract worth up to $33 million with $15 million in guarantees. After producing 94 tackles in 10 starts following a deadline deal with the Titans, re-signing the 25-year old defender at $11 million per year annually stands out as a bargain compared to other recent contracts, ensuring he will be in the Pacific Northwest through 2027.
March 10
9:18 AM PT: For those hoping the Seahawks would make a big splash on the offensive line, it won’t come in the form of Drew Dalman. According to Rapoport, the Bears and Dalman agreed to terms on a three-year, $42 million contract, continuing to revamp their own offensive line in front of former No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams with one of the NFL’s best zone blocking centers.
9:37 AM PT: While a deal has yet to be announced, the Steelers reportedly are closing in on signing former Packers and Jets starter Aaron Rodgers as their new starting quarterback. The four-time MVP had been linked to the Seahawks on Sunday as a possible replacement option for Smith, but going to the Steelers would take one suitor for Sam Darnold’s services off the board, which could help Seattle sign him if he’s the desired target as many have speculated. Former first-round pick Justin Fields also will be allowed to test the waters and could be another fallback option.
11:22 AM PT: The first big quarterback domino has fallen with the Seahawks finding their replacement for Smith in Darnold, who according to Rapoport has agreed to terms on a three-year, $100.5 million to take over as the team’s new signal caller. As part of the deal, the former USC star will receive $55 million in guarantees.
12:35 PM PT: One week after being waived as a cap casualty by the Seahawks, veteran defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris has found a new home. Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, he has agreed to terms with the Giants on a two-year, $10 million deal.
7:57 PM PT: Making their second outside signing and addressing the offensive line from a depth perspective, per Rapoport, the Seahawks are expected to sign former Ravens and Cardinals tackle Josh Jones to a one-year deal worth $4.75 million. The ex-Houston standout has started 24 games in five seasons with three teams, seeing action at every spot along the offensive line except center during that time.
March 11
6:25 AM PT: Though Seattle made a run at free agent guard Will Fries, John Schneider wasn’t able to close the deal, as the veteran lineman ultimately chose to take his talents to Minnesota instead. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Vikings inked Fries to a five-year, $88 million deal worth north of $17 million per season, a price the Seahawks weren’t able to match.
9:25 AM PT: The Seahawks will have at least one new starter along the offensive line with veteran guard Laken Tomlinson agreeing to a one-year contract with the Texans. According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the deal has a maximum value of $5 million.
March 12
7:05 AM PT: Per the Sports Entertainment Group, former Seahawks cornerback Tre Brown has agreed to terms with the 49ers, keeping the fifth-year defender in the NFC West. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
9:56 AM PT: According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Seahawks have added to their receiving corps by signing veteran wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million. The former fifth-round pick out of South Florida played for the Bills and Saints last season, catching four touchdowns in eight games in New Orleans with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak calling plays.
11:05 AM PT: After missing out on Fries earlier in the week, the Seahawks reportedly have turned their attention to another young free agent guard in former Bears starter Teven Jenkins. According to James Rapien of Bengals on SI, Seattle, Cincinnati, and the New York Giants are all actively pursuing the ex-Oklahoma State standout.
1:48 PM PT: According to Rapoport, the Seahawks will fly in former Browns safety D’Anthony Bell for a free agent visit this upcoming weekend. A special teams ace who produced 19 tackles last season, Cleveland did not tender him, making him an unrestricted free agent.
5:05 PM PT: Continuing to take a look at special teams contributors, per ESPN’s Brady Henderson, the Seahawks have scheduled former Titans running back/kick returner Julius Chestnut for a free agent visit. He rushed for 102 yards on 22 carries on offense while also playing more than 200 special teams snaps last season, but Tennessee chose not to tender him.
March 13
9:15 AM PT: After choosing not to tender linebacker Josh Ross as an exclusive rights free agent, the Seahawks will bring the special teams contributor back on a separate one-year contract, according to Henderson. Formerly playing for Mike Macdonald at Michigan and with the Ravens, he appeared in 10 games for Seattle after being claimed off waivers from Baltimore, recording four tackles.
March 14
4:16 AM PT: Nearing the finish line on a decision on where he will play next, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, former Rams All-Pro receiver Cooper Kupp reportedly has two “very interested” teams in the Seahawks and Cowboys pursuing him down the home stretch. A Yakima native and Eastern Washington alum, Kupp has Pacific Northwest roots and current Seattle pass game specialist Jake Peetz worked with him in Los Angeles, so there are plenty of connections that could lure him back home if the price is right, and a choice could be made as early as Friday morning.
8:20 AM PT: Staying in the hunt for offensive line help, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Seahawks have a free agent visit lined up on Monday with former Bears guard Teven Jenkins. The ex-Oklahoma State standout has battled through frequent injuries in four NFL seasons, but when healthy, he has been a solid performer, including receiving at least a 71.0 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus in each of the previous three seasons. Having a prior connection with quarterback coach Andrew Janocko during their time together in Chicago, he would immediately solidify the left side of Seattle’s line.
March 15
6:49 PM PT: Capping off an otherwise quiet day in free agency around the league, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Seahawks have agreed to terms with former Saints cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles. The 2021 fifth-round pick out of Appalachian State recorded 14 tackles and an interception for New Orleans last season and could be a replacement option for Tre Brown, who signed with San Francisco last week.
March 17
8:38 AM PT: Following three seasons in Seattle, former Seahawks cornerback Artie Burns has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dolphins in free agency, per Schefter. Injuries dogged the veteran during his time in the Pacific Northwest, but he played well in limited action, including flashing unexpected versatility sliding inside to the slot.
9:16 AM PT: Though they ultimately didn’t land the veteran tight end to reunite with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Juwan Johnson told reporters in New Orleans that the Seahawks were one of two other teams that tried to sign him during free agency before new coach Kellen Moore swayed him to stay put. Johnson eclipsed 500 receiving yards in his lone season playing in Kubiak’s offense and Seattle’s apparent interest shouldn’t come as a surprise.
